Overdone, overdue,
out of stock, exhausted.

But we need you here!
they'll say, You're so smart,
so competent ...

...so willing, so susceptible
to being needed, I'll say.

…so tired of being the rock,
the anchor line everyone checks
in the middle of the night

when we all feel incapable of
imagining the future on a shoe string

You'll all manage very well if you just
give yourselves the chance. You'll see there's
no magic to my being in charge.

Yes, I'm done here.
You'll be fine.

Anyone can learn to replant when the storm
takes a tree or adjust portions when
there's not enough to eat.

You'll realize you're all as good at living,
at hurting, at loving, at deciding as anyone else.

Yes, I'm going out of the
emotional management business.

I'm not selling up or giving up.

But I am letting go.
