EYES
by Deborah Greenough
Eyes, making a scene,
Eyes, thinking of dreams,
Eyes, so lonely and afraid,
Eyes, many tears they have made.
Make them clear, the redness go away.
Make them stop crying day after day.
Look through them and see the life,
The life they have wanted for years.
Look through them and see the weight
of the sadness in the tears.
Eyes, so full of fright,
Eyes, needing the light,
Eyes wanting to glisten with glee.
They wish to be wide and feel free.
