Conversation with God

© Sally A. Waldron

I went to the ocean
to take in the sea.

I went to speak to God
begging him to hear me.

"Oh lord," I started
my selfish plea,

I know you are busy
I know you have so much
going on, with wars
and pleas from those too
far gone.

I know my prayer to you
seems so small,
but I am hurting God, and
scared of it all.

My love is in pain and I don't
know what to do,
it seems to be all in your hands,
without leaving me a clue.

I pray for a sign, something
to show,
that my love is not lost and
our love will still grow.

Please show me something
be it a shell in the sand or
a blink in the wave, I am
looking intently for my
love to be saved.

I kept looking deep into
the sand,
and in my mind told God
I would understand.

My prayer is small
compared to some, and
as my mind raced
I know there is more
than one.

I suddenly looked to the
west and saw foot prints
in the sand and felt the touch
of my love as he took my hand.

I realized then that God was
telling me all was well
for he spared the hand of death
and gave my love back to me.
