A Crow Thinks About Strawberries
by Apryl fox © 2006
I pick at the food stuck between
my teeth. One liner, two liner,
I count all the peas on my plate.
The bread has sunken
into the eyes. Clouds drift by,
thin as snowflakes that melt on
my open palm.
Somewhere in Africa, a
teacher is teaching her students how to catch
the seed of a dandelion on the tip of
their tongue.
A dragonfly flutters by on the cool breeze;
its wings flutter once, as it pauses to enjoy the
sunlight, then it moves away.
A speck of light catches the crow's eye,
who is sitting on the fence in the doctor's
backyard. He pecks a hole into the fence post.
The fence post bleeds, making
the crow think of strawberries.
