Dead Lilacs

Dead lilacs on the ground
and elongated shadows that stalk without a sound
tombstones under the Willow, missing their names
I gotta hole in my heart like a pauper's grave
ain't nothin' gonna fill it
no matter how many shovelfuls of guilt I dig
ain't nothin' gonna fill it
no matter how many handfuls of heartache I cast in
Dead lilacs on the ground
and I feel like a ghost in a charnal house
my heart wilts like a flower's bloom
I gotta hole in my heart like the rusty bucket in the well
ain't nothin' gonna fill
no matter the depths I go
in't nothin' gonna fill it
no matter how much I ache to quench my thirst
Dead lilacs on the ground
and Love passes me by like a magpie on the high
tombstones under the Willow missing their names
