STORIES

Coming Home by Edward Waterman -Tommy grew up in a small town, not big enough for his dreams. He never had enough money to ever think about leaving.

Last Journey Home by Jack Irvine -Anete is waiting for me when I clear immigration at the airport. I recognize her immediately from her photos. She seems hesitant, perhaps shy, and does not come towards me. I walk up to her.

Sitting Shiva For My Father by Arthur Sánchez -Alexander Maria Rodriquez, Johnson, Sung, Paparov, Levine, etc., etc., etc., looked across the length of the green valley and saw the approaching man-thing for what it was--a machine. Alexander couldn't be fooled; he'd known for a long time that he was the last human being left in the universe. Besides, the machine strode through the trees with a strength, beauty, and grace that no man (no living man) could hope to match.

You, Detective by P.H. Madore - You know not what it's like to be a grown man crying. How it feels to see those tears clean the ashen face of your first and only born. What it's like to be a hardened hard-ass, an aging winner, and melt like a newborn.

THE INTELLIGENCE PROOF by Edward Rodosek - Don't panic, that was his first thought. While he felt the frantic pulse in his neck he tested the basic navigational parameters--and he realized the failure was fatal. He simply had to find some appropriate planet he could land on. On such a planet he'd have at least a chance to survive until the rescue team fetched him.

REPRINTS

These are stories that have appeared in other zines that are no longer online.

THE ONLY THING HE HAD - by Louise Norlie - "That was the best game we've ever had!"

The Compass - by Deborah Koren -Nora grasped at the balcony railing as the storm's winds caressed her. Her satin robe billowed, and her long hair lifted off her neck as she swayed with the gathering winds. The cityscape rose around her, all needle peaks and vertiginous canyons, with so many lights and reflected lights that the night was never dark, and the roof of clouds overhead glowed orange.

Death of a Raindrop by Paul Campbell -Today the sun cowardly hid while an army of dark storm clouds slid into position. Rumor had it that they'd been planning this drop now for over a month. This would be a storm that wouldn't soon be forgotten by many. Millions would plummet to their death today for no good reason but to lighten the load.

Loose Cannon by Paul Campbell - KAA-BOOM!! The iron ball flew straight to its target of destruction. His hands were raw from the gun powder burns but he quickly began repacking the cannon. Being his first battle, he couldn't believe the destruction the cannon could make. He had heard stories, but now seeing it first hand it was amazing. He had gone over what his first battle would be like in his head, but it wasn't nearly as exhilarating as the actual thing.
