Rainbow in the Wings

Oscillation between light and dark; schizophrenic, perhaps.
Unsure, which will prevail over the course of the day.
Eyes open with hope each morning, “Surely, this hell must end.”
Love – Hate; the age-old expression; testament to the truth of the matter.
Stay and hate yourself.
Love yourself and leave.
Either way losing something of value -- sanity, self-respect, personality traits.
Battle lines drawn, not in the sand; etched into the soul,
devouring what remains.
Laughter reduced to hallow chittering,
ghost of robust pleasure up ahead,
else, the fragile façade ready to break.
Sigh with satisfaction over simple things.
Hot water in the shower massaging aching muscles,
dogs' tails swishing back and forth,
unconditional love reflected in their eyes, acknowledging your worth once again.
Giving you a reason to wake, eat, and sleep.
Exhausted from the passive aggressive behavior, refusal to let go and yet won't open a dialogue.
Stuck between dimensions.
Married but not; single but not.
Love but not; hate but not.
Pathetic attempts to hang onto the corpse of what was.
Birds sing at dawn and dusk.
Tides rise and fall.
Phases of the moon cycle through time propelling toward a conclusion,
destined to separate one ‘life' into two instead of uniting them in matrimony.
Divorce – the decree that freedom rings,
Long awaited and well deserved.
Breathe easier now while you lick your wounds.
Thunderheads recede from the horizon, revealing the…
Rainbow that waited in the wings.
The End
