Five Nights Straight
by Dawn A Dupler © 2007
Five nights straight I awake with a,
Revolver to my head,
A scarred finger on the trigger.
I wrestle the sheets, stretch past my joints
And beg the on-call nurse to ransom me.
This hospital preys on the hunted and the harried,
Ignoring the guns, the razors, the ropes.
Tonight I won't pull the rip cord
As I tumble over my fear, sweat and smells.
Tonight my scarred finger pulls the trigger.
